Approximately 40 middle School science and mathematics teachers from five different districts throughout NE Iowa will convene for a professional development workshop on Saturday, January 26, 2013, in Wahlert Hall on the Loras College campus. In the morning each participating teacher will be provided with their own Apple iPad. Teachers will explore apps to improve math and science education and apps to facilitate teacher collaboration. In the afternoon, teachers will be studying energy through hands-on activities with model wind turbines. The workshop is funded as part of a three-year grant provided through Title IIA (Improving Teacher Quality) funding of $405,445, with oversight provided by the Iowa Board of Regents and Iowa Department of Education. The iPads are provided by funding from Verizon.
Principal Investigators and workshop organizers are Loras College professors of Education and Mathematics, Dr. Rebecca Monhardt and Dr. Robert Keller respectively.
