The Loras College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted youth football and soccer players in the Rock Bowl on Saturday, October 19. Players and coaches from East Dubuque and Dubuque came to watch the Duhawks compete in a tripleheader of college sports action.
The day started with free admission to the games for players who wore their jerseys. They watched the Duhawks compete and spent time with student-athletes on other Loras teams. In addition to their roles as fans, the young athletes had a chance to listen to the coaching staffs of the football and soccer teams talk about what it takes to be a successful athlete and successful student. Members of the Loras College teams took time to sign autographs and answer questions from the group of young fans.
“We all understand that we have a chance to be role models,” said Kinsey Campbell
(’14), a co-captain of the women’s soccer team and SAAC President. “Even though it was only a few hours, I think the youth athletes who came and participated got a good sense of what it was like to be a Division III athlete and how much hard work it takes to do well on the field and in the classroom.”
The Loras College football team will host their final game of 2013 on November 16 at 1:00 PM in the Rock Bowl. The Duhawk soccer teams will play in the Iowa Conference Tournament Semifinals at 5:00 pm (women) and 7:30 pm (men) on November 6.
