President Jim Collins
(’84) announced today that Loras College has received an anonymous $400,000 irrevocable commitment to support Inspiring Lives and Leadership: The Loras Legacy
campaign. The gift will be given apportioned between cash and an irrevocable estate contribution.
“My family has always been grateful for the opportunities that Loras has provided us, as well as its financial support in making our education possible,” said the donor. “Many years ago it was the kindness of strangers that allowed my father an education at Loras. I am excited that the endowment is directed to continued financial support for students. It makes great sense and will provide opportunities for those who would like to attend Loras, but may not have the means.”
In addition to being a graduate, both the donor’s father and brother graduated from Loras. At the donor’s request, the funds will be used to create a scholarship with preference given to students from Allamakee County, the Archdiocese of Dubuque and family descendants.
“This alumnus and his family have always been great advocates for Loras. This selfless contribution further exemplifies his deep care for our College and will ensure future generations of Duhawks the opportunity to enroll at this great Catholic liberal arts institution,” said Collins.
Launched on October 10, 2013, the $75 million Inspiring Lives and Leadership: The Loras Legacy
campaign is the largest fundraising campaign in the 175-year history of the college. In addition to raising funds to support student aid and faculty/staff professional development, the campaign seeks funds to build upon the launch of its MBA program, business analytics initiative and other academic programs. As of April 11, 2014 the campaign has raised over $53 million through more than 15,500 donors.
