MAY 2014 COMMENCEMENT
ALL COMMENCEMENT ACTIVITIES WILL BE HELD ON
SATURDAY, MAY 24, 2014

Baccalaureate Mass will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:00am in the Athletic & Wellness Center on the Loras College campus. The doors to the Athletic & Wellness Center will open at 8:30am. Seating in the Athletic & Wellness Center will be available on the main floor for guests with special needs. Limited handicapped seating and wheel chair seating is also available on the upper level. Music for this Mass is provided by the Loras College choirs and Campus Ministry. Graduates should gather by 9:30am in the Athletic & Wellness Center; the procession will begin at 9:50am. Graduates will wear full academic regalia (cap, gown and medallion) and will sit together. **If Commencement is held indoors due to inclement weather, only authorized personnel will be allowed to remain in the Athletic & Wellness Center following the conclusion of the Baccalaureate Mass in order to prepare for graduation; all other guests must excuse themselves and will not be permitted to remain or reserve seats for themselves or others.
Following Baccalaureate, lunch will be available (advanced purchase required) in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom (11:30am-1:00pm). Cost is $8.75/person and includes:
Turkey Club Sandwich on Assorted Breads and Rolls or Vegetarian Pita Sandwich
Assorted Chips, Chopped Fresh Fruit, Assorted Cookies and Dessert Bars
Canned Soda and Bottled Water
PLEASE NOTE: Tickets for the luncheon following the Baccalaureate Mass must be purchased in advance via the secure online e-commerce page at www.loras.campusdish.com. The order button is located at the bottom of the page. A receipt will be available at the conclusion of your check-out. Print this document and bring with you on May 24th. Commencement exercises for the Class of 2014 will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 1:30pm in the Rock Bowl Stadium on the Loras College campus. If the ceremony is held in the Rock Bowl Stadium, no tickets are required. For the comfort of our guests, the ceremony may also be viewed in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom (no ticket required).
In the event of inclement weather, the Commencement Ceremony will be a ticketed event and will be held in the Athletic & Wellness Center. Each graduate will be issued five (5) tickets which may be picked up at the Grad Fair on April 23rd or in the Registrar’s Office (Keane Hall, Room 135) after April 23rd. In accordance with Dubuque Fire Code regulations, all guests must have a ticket (exception being babies sitting on laps). Please note that a ticket allows admission into the Athletic & Wellness Center, but does not guarantee a seat. Seats are on a first-come basis and cannot be reserved. The sale of Commencement tickets is prohibited. Guests without a ticket will not be admitted to the Athletic & Wellness Center, but will be able to view the Commencement ceremony in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom (no ticket required).
Students gather in Graber Center by 1:00pm. Students wear full commencement apparel and have assigned seating . A seating chart/ directions for lining up will be emailed to graduates prior to commencement practice.
In case of inclement weather, Commencement will be held in the Athletic & Wellness Center. Students gather in the Alumni Campus Center/ Cafeteria by 1:00pm. Graduates will process to the Athletic & Wellness Center via the bridge. Students wear full commencement apparel and have assigned seating. A seating chart/ directions for lining up will be emailed to graduates prior to commencement practice.
Doors will open for guests in the Rock Bowl or Athletic & Wellness Center at 12:30pm. There are limited numbers of handicapped accessible seating located on the upper level of both facilities. Seating in both facilities will only be reserved for graduates, honored guests and faculty and staff that are part of the ceremony. All parking lots on the Loras College campus will be open and parking is free. The Hennessy Hall parking lot is designated as handicapped parking only. Handicapped parking for the Athletic & Wellness Center is located in the lot adjacent the building. Security will be available at both locations to assist guests.
Commencement practice will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 9:45am in Graber Sports Center. Graduates will receive a seating chart and directions for Commencement. Rehearsal will last approximately 45 minutes.
Jolesch Photography will photograph each graduate as he/she crosses the stage and receives the diploma cover. A second picture will be taken as the student leaves the stage. The proofs and an order form will be emailed to the graduate. No pre-ordering or pre-payment is necessary.
Standard Loras graduation announcements may be purchased in bundles of ten (10) for $21.99 through the Loras College Bookstore in the Academic Resource Center. Personalized announcement may be ordered via www.Herffjones.com. The deadline to order personalized announcements is May 2, 2014. Custom announcements ordered after May 2nd are not guaranteed for delivery prior to the ceremony. Contact the Bookstore via phone (563.588.7130) or web link at: http://loras.bkstore.com.
The Grad Fair will take place in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom on April 23, 2014 from 11:30am-6:00pm. Critical loan repayment informational sessions will be given every hour beginning at 1:00pm, with the last session starting at 5:00pm. Students may complete the federal loan exit requirement by attending one of these sessions and completing the appropriate loan paperwork.
Commencement apparel (cap, gown and medallion) may be picked up during this event from 12:00pm-4:00pm or any time after April 23rd in the Bookstore. Commencement apparel does not need to be returned. Should the cap or gown need to be replaced prior to graduation, a charge of $75.00 will be assessed. We are unable to replace medallions due to limited quantity. Tickets for the Commencement ceremony (required only if held in Athletic & Wellness Center) will also be distributed.
To receive a cap, gown, medallion and tickets, a student must have an authorization form from the Business Office to present to Bookstore personnel. Authorization forms will be emailed by the Business Office to all eligible students, who have a paid in full balance, on or after April 22, 2014. If a form is not received, students should contact the Business Office at 563.588.7232.
Graduating seniors will receive information on returning their laptops, and disabling email accounts, network space and personal web pages. Laptops must be returned to the Help Desk by 12:00pm on May 23, 2014.
Students will receive a diploma cover during the ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed to students approximately three to five weeks after Commencement to the address indicated on the Application for Graduation form. If the diploma is to be sent to a different address, notify the Registrar’s Office at 563.588.7106 or email@example.com.
Note: Participation in the commencement ceremony DOES NOT signify graduation from Loras College. Diplomas will be held for students who do not complete the academic requirements for graduation or who have an outstanding balance due to the college.
Graduation Announcements, Rings and Frames
Standard Loras graduation announcements may be purchased in bundles of ten through Barnes and Noble Bookstore located in the Academic Resource Center. The deadline to order personalized announcements is May 2, 2014. Students wishing to order custom invitations after May 2, 2014 may do so; however, the bookstore is unable to guarantee delivery prior to graduation. You may order personalized graduation announcements (including graduate’s name, major and degree) by going to www.herffjones.com/college/loras.
Barnes and Noble Bookstore
Barnes and Noble Bookstore will also be open on Saturday, May 24, 2014 (11:00am-3:30pm). The bookstore carries Loras logo clothing, Loras College rings, and other college memorabilia. The Bookstore’s telephone number is 563.588.7130 and the web link is http://loras.bncollege.com

Requirements to Participate in Commencement
To be eligible to participate in commencement a student must:
Complete all degree requirements as stated in the Loras College Undergraduate Bulletin.
Submit a completed Application for Graduation Form to the Registrar’s Office no later than November 29, 2013.. Students applying for graduation after this date may not be eligible to participate in commencement but will graduate in absentia
