The goal of the the senior design experience is for the students to use the skills and tools they have developed in the previous three years to design and build a product. Because our program is interdisciplinary, the project integrates aspects from both mechanical and electrical engineering. The result is often referred to as smart products, or intelligent products - these are products that make their own choices based on information they obtain from sensors.

Three Dimensional Printer

A 3D printer is a device which can print a three dimensional object. Like a conventional printer, the head of the printer moves in two dimensions and deposits an "ink". In this case the "ink" is a thermal plastic. The plastic is laid down in a thin layer.  After one layer is deposited, then the printer head moves up and deposits a second layer. This process repeats until the object is complete. If you would like to learn more about 3D printing, the following site may be interesting; Makerbot
