Psychology focuses on many different aspects of the human experience: thought, behavior, motivation, emotion, personality and physiology to name a few. The Loras Psychology department is one of the oldest, largest and most widely respected psychology programs in the Midwest. Students who graduate from Loras College with a Psychology Major are able to think critically, understand research, apply psychological theories and concepts, and respond ethically to important human dilemmas.
A psychology major can easily be combined with other majors and minors and the curriculum meets the standards for undergraduate education endorsed by the American Psychological Association.
Not only will Psychology majors tell you Psychology is a fascinating field of study, they will also tell you it is frequently entertaining and highly applicable to their own lives.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Loras Psychology graduates work in fields such as counseling, human resources, business, computer technology, health sciences, advertising/marketing and law, or continue on to graduate work. Because Psychology researches and imparts information about how humans function in the world it is an ideal field of study for just about any occupation.
Many of our graduates go on to master’s and doctoral programs and ultimately to highly successful careers in the field.
STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Psychology faculty emphasize active learning in the classroom. So psychology students produce video presentations in abnormal psychology, they conduct research and present findings at conferences, they lead brain awareness demonstrations in local schools, they assist in group work at a residential treatment center for adolescents and shadow practicing psychologists in a multitude of settings.
Loras also has a very active Psi Chi National Honor Society chapter.
