COMMENCEMENT DAY
Baccalaureate Mass, 10:00 a.m., Church of the Nativity. Students and faculty gather in front of Christ the King Chapel at 9:15 a.m. for procession to Church of the Nativity. In case of rain: Students/Faculty/Participants gather in Kerper Hall (old church) at Nativity Church at 9:15 a.m.

– Lunch, 11:30 a.m., Alumni Campus Center, pre-purchased tickets required.

– MBA graduates hooding ceremony and luncheon, 11:30 a.m., Café (invitation only)

– Commencement Ceremony 1:30 p.m, Rock Bowl Stadium. Doors open for guests at 12:30 p.m. Students gather in Graber Sports Center in full commencement apparel by 1:00 p.m. In case of rain: Students gather in the Cafeteria by 1:00 p.m.; faculty gather in the AWC lower level by 1:00 p.m.

BACCALAUREATE MASS

Baccalaureate Mass will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista Street, Dubuque, IA. The doors to the church will open at 8:30 a.m.  Music for this Mass is provided by the Loras College choirs and Campus Ministry. Following are the instructions for faculty and students and those in the academic procession from Christ the King Chapel to Nativity Church for Baccalaureate Mass:

  • Graduates will gather in front of Christ the King Chapel (Alta Vista Street) at 9:20 a.m. and begin lining up at 9:40 a.m.
  • Faculty will line up on Alta Vista Street at 9:20 a.m.

**In the event of rain, Faculty and Graduates line up in Kerper Hall Nativity (Old Church) by 9:20 a.m.

  • Faculty and Graduates will begin academic procession to Nativity at 9:45 a.m. sharp.
  • Faculty and Graduates will process directly into church to the pews saved for them.

The Liturgical Procession for the Mass will start from the back of Church at 10:00am. Graduates will recess out of the church after the conclusion of Baccalaureate Mass.

LUNCH

Following Baccalaureate mass, lunch will be available in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom (11:30am-1:00pm).  Advanced purchase required – click here to purchase tickets. Cost is $8.75/person (ticket must be purchased for graduate) and includes:

  • Turkey Club Sandwich on Assorted Breads and Rolls or Vegetarian Pita Sandwich
  • Assorted Chips, Chopped Fresh Fruit, Assorted Cookies and Dessert Bars
  • Canned  Soda and Bottled Water

Please Note:  Tickets for the luncheon following the Baccalaureate Mass must be purchased in advance via our secure online payment page.  Please print your confirmation email as you will need it with you on May 21st.  If you have questions regarding the purchase of tickets, please contact susan.dubois@loras.edu.

COMMENCEMENT

Commencement exercises for the Class of 2016 will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in the Rock Bowl Stadium on the Loras College campus. If the ceremony is held in the Rock Bowl Stadium, no tickets are required.  For the comfort of our guests, the ceremony may also be viewed in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom (no ticket required).

In the event of inclement weather, the Commencement Ceremony will be a ticketed event and will be held in the Athletic & Wellness Center.  Each graduate will be issued five (5) tickets.  In accordance with Dubuque Fire Code regulations, all guests must have a ticket (exception being babies sitting on laps).  Please note that a ticket allows admission into the Athletic & Wellness Center, but does not guarantee a seat.  Seats are on a first-come basis and cannot be reserved.  The sale of Commencement tickets is prohibited.  Guests without a ticket will not be admitted to the Athletic & Wellness Center, but will be able to view the Commencement ceremony in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom (no ticket required).

Students gather in Graber Center by 1:00 p.m. Students wear full commencement apparel and have assigned seating.  A seating chart/ directions for lining up will be available to graduates prior to commencement practice.

In case of inclement weather, Commencement will be held in the Athletic & Wellness Center.  Students gather in the Alumni Campus Center/Cafeteria by 1:00 p.m. Graduates will process to the Athletic & Wellness Center via the bridge. Students wear full commencement apparel and have assigned seating. A seating chart/directions for lining up will be available to graduates prior to commencement practice.

Doors will open for guests in the Rock Bowl or Athletic & Wellness Center at 12:30 p.m.  There are limited numbers of handicapped accessible seating located on the upper level of both facilities.  Seating in both facilities will only be reserved for graduates, honored guests and faculty and staff that are part of the ceremony.  All parking lots on the Loras College campus will be open and parking is free.  The Hennessy Hall parking lot is designated as handicapped parking only.  Handicapped parking for the Athletic & Wellness Center is located in the lot adjacent the building.  Security will be available at both locations to assist guests.

COMMENCEMENT PRACTICE

Commencement practice will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. in Graber Sports Center.  A seating chart/directions for lining up will be available to graduates prior to commencement practice. Rehearsal will last approximately 45 minutes.

PICTURES

Jolesch Photography will photograph each graduate as he/she crosses the stage and receives the diploma cover.  A second picture will be taken as the student leaves the stage.  The proofs and an order form will be emailed to the graduate.  No pre-ordering or pre-payment is necessary. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Standard Loras graduation announcements may be purchased in bundles of ten (10) for $23.98 through the Loras College Bookstore in the Academic Resource Center. Contact the Bookstore via phone at 563.588.7130.

GRAD FAIR

The Grad Fair will take place in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom on April 20, 2016 from 12:30pm-6:00pm.  Critical loan repayment informational sessions will be given every hour beginning at 1:00pm with the last session starting at 5:00pm.  Students may complete the federal loan exit requirement by attending one of these sessions and completing the appropriate loan paperwork.

Commencement apparel (cap, gown and medallion or hood if Graduate student) may be picked up during this event from 12:30pm-4:30pm, or any time after April 20th in the Bookstore.  Commencement apparel does not need to be returned.  Should the cap or gown need to be replaced prior to graduation, a charge of $75.00 will be assessed.  We are unable to replace medallions due to limited quantity.  Tickets for the Commencement ceremony (required only if held in Athletic & Wellness Center due to inclement weather) will also be distributed.

To receive commencement apparel and inclement weather ceremony tickets, a student must have an authorization form from the Business Office to present to Bookstore personnel.  Authorization forms will be emailed by the Business Office to all eligible students, who have a paid in full balance, on or after April 18, 2016. If a form is not received, students should contact the Business Office at 563.588.7232.

LAPTOP INFORMATION

Graduating seniors will receive information on returning their laptops, and disabling email accounts, network space and personal web pages.  Laptops must be returned to the Help Desk by 12:00 p.m. on May 20, 2016.

DIPLOMAS

Students will receive a diploma cover during the ceremony.  Diplomas will be mailed to students approximately three to five weeks after Commencement to the address indicated on the Application for Graduation form.  If the diploma is to be sent to a different address, notify the Registrar’s Office at 563.588.7106 or registrar@loras.edu.

Note: Participation in the commencement ceremony DOES NOT signify graduation from Loras College. Diplomas will be held for students who do not complete the academic requirements for graduation or who have an outstanding balance due to the college. 

BARNES & NOBLE BOOKSTORE

Barnes and Noble Bookstore will be open on Saturday, May 21, 2016 (hours to be determined). The bookstore carries Loras logo clothing, Loras College rings, and other college memorabilia.  The Bookstore’s telephone number is 563.588.7130 and the web link is http://loras.bncollege.com.

LOCAL HOTELS

REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT

To be eligible to participate in commencement a student must:

  1. Complete all degree requirements as stated in the Loras College Undergraduate Bulletin.
  2. Submit a completed Application for Graduation Form to the Registrar’s Office no later than December 4, 2015. Students applying for graduation after this date may not be eligible to participate in commencement but will graduate in absentia.
  3. Pay account balance in full.
