  • Baccalaureate Mass, 10:00 a.m., Church of the Nativity.
  • Faculty should be in their reserved pews in full academic regalia by 9:50 AM.
    Students should gather in the back of church at 9:40 a.m. until they are instructed to begin their formal procession to their reserved pews at 9:50 a.m.

  • MBA Graduates Hooding Ceremony & Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. (invitation only)

BACCALAUREATE MASS

Baccalaureate Mass will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista Street, Dubuque, IA. The doors to the church will open at 8:30 a.m. Music for this Mass is provided by the Loras College choirs, Wind Ensemble, and Spiritual Life division staff and students.

  • Due to weather predictions, there will be no academic procession involving faculty or students. Faculty should be in their reserved pews in full academic regalia by 9:50 AM. Students should gather in the back of church at 9:40 a.m. until they are instructed to begin their formal procession to their reserved pews at 9:50 a.m.

LUNCH

Following Baccalaureate mass, lunch will be available in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom (11:30am-1:00pm).  Advanced purchase required – click here to purchase tickets. Cost is $8.75/person (ticket must also be purchased for graduate) and includes:

  • Turkey Club Sandwich on Assorted Breads and Rolls or Vegetarian Pita Sandwich
  • Assorted Chips, Chopped Fresh Fruit, Assorted Cookies and Dessert Bars
  • Canned  Soda and Bottled Water

Please Note:  Tickets for the luncheon following the Baccalaureate Mass must be purchased in advance via our secure online payment page.  Please print your confirmation email as you will need it with you on May 20th.  If you have questions regarding the purchase of tickets, please contact Laurel Morris at Laurel.Morris@loras.edu.

COMMENCEMENT

Due to weather predictions, Commencement exercises for the Class of 2017 will be a ticketed event and will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Athletic & Wellness Center on the Loras College campus.  Each graduate will be issued five (5) tickets.  In accordance with Dubuque Fire Code regulations, all guests must have a ticket (exception being babies sitting on laps).  Please note that a ticket allows admission into the Athletic & Wellness Center, but does not guarantee a seat.  Seats are on a first-come basis and cannot be reserved.  The sale of Commencement tickets is prohibited.  Guests without a ticket will not be admitted to the Athletic & Wellness Center, however will be able to view the Commencement ceremony in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom via webcast (no ticket required).

Friends and family unable to be on campus for our 2017 Commencement Ceremony can watch live online via webcast streaming at  www.loras.edu/streaming.

Graduates will be expected to gather in the Lower Level AWC by 1:00 p.m. Students wear full commencement apparel and have assigned seating. A seating chart/directions for lining up will be available to graduates during commencement practice on Friday in the Lower Level AWC.

Doors will open for guests in the Athletic & Wellness Center at 12:30 p.m.  There are limited numbers of handicapped accessible seating, however additional seating is available in the Marie Graber Ballroom, where the full ceremony will be viewed via webcast.  All parking lots on the Loras College campus will be open and parking is free.  The Hennessy Hall parking lot is designated as handicapped parking only.  Handicapped parking for the Athletic & Wellness Center is located in the lot adjacent the building.  Security will be available at both locations to assist guests.

COMMENCEMENT PRACTICE

Commencement practice will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 9:45 a.m. in Lower Level AWC.  A seating chart/directions for lining up will be available to graduates during commencement practice on Friday in the Lower Level AWC. Rehearsal will last approximately 45 minutes.

PICTURES

Lifetouch Photography will photograph each graduate as he/she crosses the stage.  A second picture will be taken as the student leaves the stage.  The proofs and an order form will be emailed to the graduate.  No pre-ordering or pre-payment is necessary. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Standard Loras graduation announcements may be purchased in bundles of ten (10) for $24.98 through the Loras College Bookstore in the Academic Resource Center. Contact the Bookstore via phone at 563.588.7130.

GRAD FAIR

The Grad Fair will take place in the Alumni Campus Center/Marie Graber Ballroom on April 27, 2017 from 12:30pm-6:00pm.  Critical loan repayment informational sessions will be given every hour beginning at 1:00pm with the last session starting at 5:00pm.  Students may complete the federal loan exit requirement by attending one of these sessions and completing the appropriate loan paperwork.

Commencement apparel (cap, gown and medallion or hood if Graduate student) may be picked up during this event from 12:30pm-4:30pm, or any time after April 28 in the Bookstore.  Commencement apparel does not need to be returned.  Should the cap or gown need to be replaced prior to graduation, a charge of $75.00 will be assessed.  We are unable to replace medallions due to limited quantity.  Tickets for the Commencement ceremony (required only if held in Athletic & Wellness Center due to inclement weather) will also be distributed.

To receive commencement apparel and inclement weather ceremony tickets, a student must have an authorization form from the Business Office to present to Bookstore personnel.  Authorization forms will be emailed by the Business Office to all eligible students who have a paid in full balance, on or after April 25, 2017. If a form is not received, students should contact the Business Office at 563.588.7232.

LAPTOP INFORMATION

Graduating seniors’ email accounts, network space and personal web pages will stay active until August 14, 2017.  Laptops must be returned to the Help Desk before noon on Friday, May 19, 2017.

DIPLOMAS

Students will receive a diploma folder during the ceremony.  Diplomas will be mailed to students approximately four to six weeks after Commencement to the address indicated on the Application for Graduation form.  If the diploma is to be sent to a different address, notify the Registrar’s Office at registrar@loras.edu or 563.588.7106.

Note: Participation in the commencement ceremony DOES NOT signify graduation from Loras College. Diplomas will be held for students who do not complete the academic requirements for graduation or who have an outstanding balance due to the college.

BARNES & NOBLE BOOKSTORE

Barnes and Noble Bookstore will be open on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 11:00am – 4:00pm.  The Duhawk Shop (next to Einstein’s Bros. Bagels) will be open from 9:00am – 2:00pm on Saturday.  The bookstore carries Loras logo clothing, Loras College rings, and other college memorabilia.  Visit the Loras College Barnes and Noble Bookstore at http://loras.bncollege.com or call  563.588.7130.

REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT

To be eligible to participate in commencement a student must:

  1. Complete all degree requirements as stated in the Loras College Undergraduate Bulletin.
  2. Submit a completed Application for Graduation Form to the Registrar’s Office no later than November 30, 2016. Students applying for graduation after this date may not be eligible to participate in commencement but will graduate in absentia.
  3. Pay account balance in full.
