Athletic Training

This Athletic Training Program at Loras is accredited by the Commission  on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Emphasizing hands-on learning, the program gives undergraduate students access to athletes and their injuries early in the program, providing valuable clinical experience. Application to the major begins the spring semester of a student’s first academic year, ensuring that students spend the bulk of their four years in practicum experiences. 

Along with the required clinical component of all on campus sport teams, students have participated in a variety of opportunities, including coverage of the Chicago Marathon and the Hula Bowl.

  • Prepares students for the BOC Certification Exam.
  • Graduates seek careers in athletic training at all levels of sport.

    Graduates continue their education in a variety of graduate school programs, including; Physical Therapy, Physician’s Assistant, Nursing and Nutrition.   

    Admission Requirements

    Selections for admission into the ATEP are made at the end of each spring semester.  To major in Athletic Training the following criteria must be met:

    1. Direct admission from a secondary school by the admissions policy of Loras College or transfer into Loras College following the guidelines given in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

    2. Application to the ATEP is to be completed by the end of the first year at Loras College. Documents for application include;

      a. Completed biographical information form 
      b. Blood Borne Pathogen Training Completed (must be done prior to observation)
      c. Completed Confidentiality Waiver (must be done prior to observation)
      d. Completed Observation Log 
      e. Three letters of recommendation
      f. Official Transcripts
      g. Interview with ATEP Selection Committee

    Upon Formal Acceptance into the ATEP, the student must complete the following

      1. Proof of CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
      2. Health Status Form Complete.
      3. Record of Annual Physical
      4. Record of Immunizations up to date.
      5. Technical Standards signed

    Following selection, completion of the program requires a minimum of six consecutive semesters or three academic years.

    Many students continue their studies in Athletic Training at the graduate level.

    Careers available to program graduates include clinical athletic trainers at the high school, college or professional level, or in the clinical, hospital or industrial setting.

    Faculty
