Division of Communication and Fine Arts

Division Chair: Mary Carol Harris, Ph.D.

Looking for something a little less traditional? The Division of Communication and Fine Arts at Loras offers just that, from graphic design to children’s television production to performing in Carnegie Hall.  A faculty largely comprised of industry professionals guides students through the practice-based programs. Students have regular access to state of the art editing facilities and software suites, including both PC and Macintosh, and engage in exciting hands-on opportunities in their first semester with client productions and the campus newspaper, radio, and television stations.

Communication Arts offers courses leading to two majors. A minimum of a 2.0 grade must be received in the core courses for the major. If the minimum is not achieved, the student must retake the course the next time it is offered. A 2.25 cumulative grade point average is required in courses submitted for the major. A 2.75 (B-) cumulative grade point average is required in certain writing courses for those majoring in Media Studies (L.COM-225: Media Writing) and in Public Relations (L.COM-202: Public Relations Writing).

Communication Arts offers two MAJORS: Media Studies and Public Relations

Communication Arts offers four MINORS: Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations and Theatre.

The requirements for a minor in Publishing are listed under the English Program in the Division of Language and Literature.

Hoffmann Hall houses the Department of Communication Arts at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa
