Psychology

The focus of a study in Psychology includes human behavior, thinking, and emotion. A degree in Psychology offers the challenges and rewards of both the sciences and the humanities.  Students develop skills in data analysis, computers, group dynamics, oral presentation, critical thinking and effective writing.  At Loras, we provide a university-level Psychology curriculum in a small college environment that prioritizes personal attention.  Each faculty member has no more than 12 advisees.

Courses are varied and reflect the broad range of psychological knowledge, and include Brain and Behavior, Psychology of Art, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Understanding Addictions, Positive Psychology and Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Extensive supervised internship experiences are a highlight of the program and are available at more than 20 placement sites in local and area mental health and human service programs. Loras’s award-winning Psi Chi chapter is a student-run organization that provides students with leadership opportunities and additional learning outside the classroom.
