Loras College offers over 40 different majors and 13 pre-professional areas of study ranging from Biological Research to Electromechanical Engineering to English Writing. In addition to classes for your major, you will also take courses from our liberal arts curriculum that will teach you to speak, write and think critically. The 14-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio at Loras allows for valuable mentoring opportunities with your professors. There are also student support services such as math and writing labs to help students achieve success in college. To assist international students in getting acquainted, students will participate in an orientation program run by the Office of Intercultural Programs and will work with an academic advisor to help select the appropriate classes. Scholarships are available to all full-time international students. Loras is proud to be one of only three schools in Iowa that provides its students with laptop computers for their personal use.
The campus is situated on the high bluffs of the Mississippi River, overlooking the city of Dubuque, Iowa; a small, safe city of 67,000 people. Dubuque is only a three-hour drive from larger metropolitan areas like Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On campus, you will find new and exciting ways to get involved. There are more than 55 clubs and organizations and over 90 intramural activities offered. From archery and water basketball to student government and concert choir; there is something for everyone. Loras is a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, NCAA Division III. There are 21 varsity sports offered – 11 for men and 10 for women.
