MERIT-BASED ASSISTANCE 

2009-10 Loras College Scholarships: For First Year Students

Loras College offers renewable scholarship and grant awards for qualified, incoming, full-time first year students (U.S. Citizens and permanent residents only). Scholarships are awarded based on a cumulative high school grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and ACT scores.  To ensure full consideration for scholarships, students must have applied, be accepted and have all current transcripts and test scores to Loras College by March 31, 2009.

Regent Scholarship  2 - Full Tuition Scholarships, 5 - $17,000 Scholarships

Requirements: Students must have a 29 ACT/1980 SAT or higher with a minimum 3.80 cumulative high school grade point average (on a 4.0 scale)

To be considered for the Regent Scholarship, students must apply to Loras College, be accepted and have submitted scholarship competition materials no later than January 20, 2009. The scholarship recipients will receive notification after February 1, 2009. The Regent Scholarship supersedes the Leadership Incentive, Catholic High School and Legacy Grants and  Honors Program Scholarship. Students participating in the Regent Scholarship competition who are not selected as recipients are automatically qualified for other merit award scholarships. To submit an application, please send cover letter, resume of leadership activities and a letter of reference to the Loras College Admission Office. 

Renewal Criteria: Renewable up to four years with minimum cumulative 3.25 college GPA

Students who receive this scholarship are not eligible for the Cathilic High School Grant, Legacy Grant or Breitbach Catholic Thinkers and Leaders Scholarship.

Breitbach Catholic Thinkers & Leaders Program $16,000 Scholarship to those accepted into the program.

You must be accepted into Loras College in order to apply for the Breitbach
Catholic Thinkers and Leaders program.  You do not have to be Catholic
to apply.

• This scholarship is awarded to selected applicants.

• Breitbach Catholic Thinkers and Leaders application materials and essay are due December 17, 2008.

 • You may send or email your 1000 word essay describing your faith development and how you hope to live a life of faith and leadership; and a detailed list of your activities and involvements while in high school.

 • You will also need to send two letters of reference from two non-family members who can speak to your faith development and leadership qualities. 

• Selected students will be invited to a Breitbach Scholarship Day January 24 and 25, 2009.  Selected students will be notified by December 23, 2008.

• Selected students will be interviewed at the Breitbach Scholarship Day.

• Recipients of the award will be announced after January 30th, 2009.

Students awarded the Breitbach Catholic Thinkers and Leaders scholarship are eligible to receive the Catholic High School and Legacy Grants; however, they are not eligible to receive a Loras Merit Award or the Regent Scholarship.

2009-10 Loras College Scholarships

Loras Merit Awards        $3,000 to $14,000 per year
Requirements:  A combination of grade point average, ACT/SAT score and class rank are considered in determining the scholarship amount.     

Catholic High School Grant          $1,000 per year
Available to incoming full-time students who graduate from a Catholic High School.       

Legacy Grant          $1,000 per year
Available to incoming full-time students that meet at least one of the following:  sibling who currently attends or has graduated from Loras College, parent or grandparent who is an alumnus of Loras College (minimum 30 hours completed).

Music Scholarship          $500 to $2,000 per year
Awarded based on audition and open to all majors.  Students must be accepted prior to their audition and must participate in at least one performance group as a Loras College student.  Auditions will be held in the spring.
