Breitbach Catholic Thinkers and Leaders program is ideal for someone who is curious about the tradition of Catholic thinking and enthusiastic about the possibility of making a difference. We welcome students who have had experience with service and leadership in high school. The program does include a January Term study abroad.
While enrolled in the program, you will take part in an exclusive Modes of Inquiry (MOI) course and Catholic Traditions course. You will study some key thinkers of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition like Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Francis of Assisi, Teresa of Avila, Cardinal Newman, Dorothy Day and John Paul II. You will investigate these thinkers’ ideas about the meaning of life and how one makes a significant contribution to the world. The program offers a $16,000 scholarship to Loras College. The deadline for applying was December 20, 2007 and is now closed for this year.

There will be opportunities to look at important twentieth century Catholic writers to see their vision of what is important in life and how one can make choices to change the world for the better. In discussions and activities outside the classroom, you will concentrate on bringing the principles of the Loras Catholic Identity Statement to life.
You will be part of an intentional community that will strive to create a culture of service on the Loras campus and in the wider community. Internships will help you see Catholic leaders at work and will help you identify the characteristics that make an effective leader.
We are Specifically looking for students who will be active learners and reflective thinkers. Not all participants need to be "A" students; but all should be excited about the prospect of learning, willing to ask questions and to do the hard work of making connections. The program will thrive with participants who are concerned about social justice and dedicated to service.
Above all, we are looking for students who understand the call of Jesus, "What has been given as gift, give as gift."
