Technology Infrastructure

With 50 network and e-mail servers, 150 wireless access points, 450 IP telephones, a gigabit fiber optic backbone and the equivalent of 10 T1 lines, Loras provide a state of the art network and telephone infrastructure.

Loras College offers secure, encrypted wireless network access in all of the classrooms, in the Academic Resource Center, in the labs, in campus-owned houses and in many common areas on campus.

Every residence hall room has 100 Mbps switched Ethernet connections. All residence halls will be wireless in the Fall 2009 semester. Every student has personal network storage space, e-mail and personal web space to create web pages for academic projects.

 Technology Support & Service

The Loras College Help Desk is the front line of support for hardware, software, network, printing and related technical questions. The Help Desk offers walk-in, call-in, web based and e-mail support beyond normal college business hours. Students are able to re-image their laptops at any time.

The cost of the mobile computing / laptop program is $475 per semester. This fee includes a laptop, all network and printing resources, wireless, service and support. All repairs are handled on campus by A+/Lenovo certified repair technicians. Problems covered under warranty have no repair fees associated. There is a $75 deductible on accidental damage, a $400 deductible for theft and vandalism, and up to the full replacement cost due to intentional damage or neglect.
