Loras College Dance Marathon (LCDM) ended its 12th year on April 29 with its annual 12-hour event in the Alumni Campus Center. At the end of the night, lights were turned off as glowing poster boards revealed $216,061 in donations! It’s the third straight year LCDM has raised more than $200,000 keeping its title as the No.1 fundraising school per capita.
More than 400 dancers, family members, and volunteers came together to celebrate the year-long efforts of the organization. The day was filled with fundraising challenges, line dancing, skits from other student organizations, karaoke, rave dancing, and lots of laughter and tears.
At the top of each hour, families shared stories of having loved ones being treated at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The personal stories helped volunteers understand why they dance for 12 hours and how they make a true impact on families.
Loras College Dance Marathon started 12 years ago with the help of Associate Dean of Students Kim Walsh. Throughout the course of LCDM, she has helped raise more than $1.5 million for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
After 12 years, Walsh will step down from her advising position with LCDM. Brinton Vincent, assistant director of Student Life, will assume that role for Loras College Dance Marathon on April 28, 2018 from noon to midnight.
