Similar to what is known these days as “Theology on Tap,” an effort to bring young adults and the community together in a social setting around a multitude of theological topics, Holy Spirits and Biblical Brews is a program organized by the Campus Ministry CORE Team and generously supported by the Kucera Center, aimed at bringing members of our community together in a comfortable setting (The PUB) with an opportunity to discuss a current faith-related topic.
Always held on a Friday night, Holy Spirits and Biblical Brews typically kicks off with people gathering around 5:00 p.m. for dinner and socializing. Free snacks and a root beer keg are also provided. At 5:30 p.m. the program begins with a speaker selected by the student leaders on the Campus Ministry CORE Team. Past speakers have included Dr. Art Sunleaf, Fr. Doug Wathier, Coach Greg Gorton, Fr. Dennis Miller, and Nathaniel Gee, who have discussed topics such as their personal faith journey, the saints, theology of the body, and open question forums. The discussion usually lasts until 7:00 p.m., and many people stay and mingle.
Upcoming Holy Spirits and Biblical Brews are scheduled for February 19 with Annie Wertz, theology leadership coordinator, and April 15 with President Jim Collins, who will be sharing about his personal spiritual journey, as well as his involvements in the faith community during his years as a student as Loras.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend: Loras community and friends, alumni, and their guests. Recent graduates might find it a particularly easy way to come back to campus for a visit to the Pub and become involved in some interesting conversations with fellow Duhawks. There will be a door prize drawing, snacks and a root beer keg provided. Dinner is available for purchase and alcoholic beverages available for those over 21. Join us!
