Athletic Staff Expanding Roles Through Camps and Clinics

From August until May, the 17 head coaches at Loras College spend their time coaching their current student-athletes, preparing for games and recruiting future Duhawks. During the months of June and July, they’re off adding valuable skills and experiences to their arsenal through camps and clinics hosted by other organizations.

Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Jenna Ness will serve as head coach for the girls’ select team at the Iowa High Performance Camp this summer, June 8-11 inside the Athletic & Wellness Center on campus. Ness has been involved in the planning process since fall of 2016 and played an integral role in bringing the camp to Loras. At the end of July, Ness will travel to Florida and serve as the head coach for the High Performance Championships.

“It’s a unique opportunity for us to have some of the best players in the state of Iowa on our campus to showcase our state-of-the-art facilities,” Ness said. “I’m really looking forward to building relationships with these girls and creating a team culture that will allow us to be successful on the national stage.”

Loras Assistant Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach Kevin Cavers (’14) has Wahlert Catholic High School back in the state finals for boys’ soccer, a year after that team finished as the runner-up in the 2A class. After two years as a graduate assistant at Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania, Cavers returned to his alma mater and took up the reigns as head coach at Wahlert Catholic, just as many former Loras soccer standouts have done before. Women’s Soccer Head Coach Matt Pucci (’08) coached Wahlert to a state championship in 2008, while Loras Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach and former Loras soccer player Sam Koenig (’16) was at the helm a year ago.
