Ah, summer. A time for relaxation, rest and Duhawk internships! A brief snapshot of just a few of our students’ amazing internship experiences that will take place this summer:
Rachel Heiderscheit (’19), a music and psychology major, is at Stonehill Franciscan Services in Dubuque. She is using her psychology major to work directly with clients while also using the opportunity to incorporate her music major to blend in some music therapy type activities. This internship initially seemed like a good fit for Rachel, and the site supervisor graciously worked with our Center for Experiential Learning office to incorporate Rachel’s professional interests into a very fulfilling experience.
Chad Fitzgerald (’18), a sport management major, is at the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque. Chad is doing his required Sport Management internship at the museum, connecting to his major through the event planning realm. The Museum hosts large meetings, weddings, and other events, and Chad is working with the Event Coordinator this summer. This internship was coordinated through Anne Marx Scheuerell a Sport Management professor.
Elle Hoffman (’18), a biology major, is doing a summer and fall-long internship at the Pioneer Research Facility in Johnston, Iowa. She hopes to be a geneticist and will be getting hands-on experience with this very large company and Midwest agricultural leader. Elle will be conducting experiments in reach-in growth chambers, collecting data and investigating seed production improvements in her internship.
Brody Kuhar (’18), a media studies and Spanish major, is doing a summer media studies internship for Forever Ready Productions in Memphis, Tennessee. Forever Ready Productions is owned by Lauren (Squires) Ready (’08), an alumna who contacted Craig Schaefer (’89), media studies professor. In his internship, Brody will be filming, writing, editing, and designing motion graphics for films and documentary/feature pieces. Forever Ready Productions helps nonprofits, small businesses, and startups to tell their story.
