LORAS COLLEGE HOSTS 3RD ANNUAL DUHAWK DAY MAY 21; RECEIVES ANONYMOUS $15,000 GIFT CHALLENGE

As Loras College prepares to host its 3rd annual Duhawk Day on May 21, 2015, an anonymous 1985 alum has stepped forward once again and issued a gift challenge: if the Loras community reaches its goal of 1,450 donors in one day, the donor will make a $15,000 gift to the College.

“For over 175 years, countless Duhawks have called 1450 Alta Vista Street home so this year our goal is to have 1,450 Duhawks support Loras College while celebrating our newest group of graduates, the Class of 2015.” said Mike Doyle (’91), vice president for institutional advancement. “Duhawks will be sharing their love for Loras and uniting at events around the world. Duhawk Day is a 24 hour effort focused on spirit and support. It is becoming a great tradition that is simply spectacular.”

Duhawk Day is an annual, world-wide celebration to welcome the newest group of alumni, unite Duhawks around the world and to share spirit and support for Loras College. Last year, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the College set out to reach 1,075 donors in one day in honor of the College’s 175th anniversary. The Loras community surpassed that goal, reaching more than 1,200 donors in only 24 hours.

This year, Loras College is celebrating with 24 events across the country from Portland, Oregon and Orange County, California to Baltimore, Maryland and Charlotte, North Carolina. On campus in Dubuque, Iowa, Mass will be held at noon in Christ the King Chapel and a Duhawk Day Social will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Loras College Pub, located in the Alumni Campus Center.

In recognition of Loras as a “home away from home” for Duhawks everywhere, the donor goal for 2015 has been set at 1,450, a reflection of the Loras College address, 1450 Alta Vista Street. No matter the location, all friends of the College are encouraged to get together, wear purple and gold and share photos and video from their celebrations around the world using #DuhawkDay on social media or emailing alumni@loras.edu. Updates on the goal of 1,450 donors will be posted throughout the day on the Loras College Alumni Facebook Page.
