DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College, Iowa’s first college, announced today the appointment of John Sutter as its director of marketing and communications. Sutter returns to Loras after serving as its admissions communication manager from 1999 to 2001.
Sutter comes to Loras after serving as director of marketing and sales for the Dubuque County Historical Society, including the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, National Rivers Hall of Fame and Mathias Ham House Historic Site. Additionally, he was interim executive director from November 2015 to June 2016.
“John brings several years of extensive experience in both marketing and communications,” Jim Collins, president of Loras College, said. “He now brings that unique skill set along with the distinction of being a capable leader, collaborator, and superior communicator which has cultivated enduring relationships within the community. All of these facets of the position are integral to our continued success.”
While at the Museum & Aquarium, Sutter oversaw all earned revenue departments and played key roles in all aspects of its administration, including directing all marketing, public relations, media relations, and sales management. As an organization spokesperson, he has appeared regularly in print and radio and TV programs.
From 2001 to 2005, Sutter was director of marketing for Advance Data-Comm, Dubuque. Two years prior, Sutter served as admissions communication manager at Loras where he led the nationally recognized, award-winning “You Belong Here” student recruitment campaign. From 1997 to 1999, Sutter was an advertising projects coordinator at McGraw-Hill Companies, Dubuque.
He remains active in a variety of boards and local organizations. He currently chairs the Dubuque Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee and is president of the America’s River Corp. Board.
