Loras College to receive school-wide donation at Lincoln Elementary School

MEDIA OPPORTUNITY

WHAT: Addie Dura, a second grader at Lincoln Elementary School, Dubuque, and a neighbor of the Loras College campus, was moved to help when saw the fire at Visitation Hall in March.  Over the next 14 days, Addie raised enough money to donate $500 in gift cards to help displaced students. Inspired by Addie, her entire school held a one-day, school-wide fundraiser and will present Loras a jar filled with $500 in cash and coin donations.

WHEN: 3 p.m. Friday during a school assembly.

WHERE: Lincoln Elementary School, 555 Nevada St., Dubuque, Iowa.

WHY: “It reaffirms how blessed we are to be a part of such a caring community, known for its generosity and love for our students,” Jim Collins, president of Loras College, said.

VISUALS and INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES:

  • President Jim Collins will speak on behalf of Loras College.
  • Dewey Duhawk will greet and mingle with about 300 students.
  • Students and staff impacted by the fire will be available for interviews.
  • In appreciation, Loras College will present students with complimentary athletic passes for the 16-17 school year.
