Loras College Dance Marathon welcomed 297 registered dancers to its 11th annual event on April 23, 2016. Participating miracle kids wore capes to go along with the theme of “Miracle Powers For 12 Hours” and superhero decorations filled the Alumni Campus Center. Every hour throughout the day was dedicated to a miracle family who lost a child and participating miracle families shared their stories.
Different events and activities were planned throughout the day to keep the dancers and families on their feet. Whether it was Zumba, line dancing, a miracle kiddo talent show, traveling to the Rockbowl to play games and perform the morale dance, or to Graber Center for live-band karaoke, basketball, bubble soccer or life-sized Hungry Hippos, there was never a dull moment for dancers. After the Graber Center, dancers entered rave hour, filled with black lights and glow sticks. Dean of Students Art Sunleaf took on two students in a lip sync battle to end the day before the final reveal of the total fundraising efforts of all the dancers of $201,717.44.
All proceeds from Loras College Dance Marathon benefit the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Loras College Dance Marathon would like to thank all of our generous donors and supporters for Dance Marathon 11. Because of the support we have from generous family, friends, and community members, we are able to remain the leading fundraising school per capita in the nation for the 7th consecutive year.
