Family Weekend 2019 Event Schedule

Friday, September 20, 2019

11:00 AM —  Family Weekend Mass, Christ the King Chapel
Join us to start the weekend celebration! All families and faith traditions are welcome.

6:00 PM — Loras Men’s Soccer Game vs. University of Chicago, Rockbowl Stadium
Support the Loras men’s soccer team as they take on the University of Chicago!
Cost: $6.00 per adult; $5.00 age 55 and over; $3.00 for students (kindergarten through high school); age five and under is free; Loras faculty, staff and students free with Loras ID.
No need to purchase tickets in advance, you can pay at the gate.

7:00 PM — Heitkamp Planetarium Show, Heitkamp Planetarium
There is much more to the lives of stars than just those dots of light we see in the night sky. Those tiny dots are actually giant condensed balls of gas, but how did they get started? Join current students Zach Ney and Keighley Lipetzky and learn about the birth of a star and their effects on their surroundings.

7:00 PM — Legacy Reception, Keane Hall Porch
Legacy students and their families are invited to join President Collins and members of the Alumni and Advancement Office for a reception in the Keane Hall Lobby and porch.

8:00 PM — Loras College Activities Board [CAB] Electric Magician: Trigg Watts, Marie Graber Ballrooms
The Loras College Activities Board is bringing Trigg Watts to campus!
Admission is Free; no ticket or reservation required.

8:30 AM — Coffee at the Library, Miller Academic Resource Center
Informal gathering at the library. The Special Collections will be open. 

 9:00 AM — Conversation with the President & Deans, Miller Academic Resource Center
Come listen to Jim Collins, Loras College President, Dr. Donna Heald, Academic Dean and Dr. Arthur Sunleaf, Dean of Students give an update about campus life at Loras College in a question and answer discussion. Participation through questions is welcomed.

10:00 AM — How Do College Students Spend Money, Keane Hall 333
How does an undergraduate student spend their money?  How does their money personality play a role into the undergraduate financial experience?  Presented by Michelle Kruger, the Loras College Financial Planning Association (“FPA”) Chapter and the Financial Planning & Wealth Management Program, we invite you to hear tips and techniques toward responsible four-year finances.

10:00 AM — Neuroscience Behavioral Lab Tour, St. Joseph Hall of Science
At the Neuroscience Behavioral Lab, families can see the space we use to do behavioral testing and some of the equipment we use to conduct neuroscience research. Dr. Cassella will be present to talk about how a degree in Neuroscience is useful in almost any post-graduation plans, to include careers in science, medicine, business, and law.

10:00 AM — Engineering Program Reception, St. Joseph Hall of Science
Stop by to meet our faculty and other Loras families interested in the Engineering Department. There will be a 3D printing and Robotics demonstration. Those who attend will be able to ‘drive’ a robot around the classroom from a remote computer.

10:00 AM — Interfaith Gathering with Spiritual Life & Better Together, Spiritual Life
All are welcome to participate in this simple gathering in Spiritual Life to share hopes and concerns of the heart and mind.  The session will be guided by Stacia McDermott, Director of Spiritual Life and members of Better Together and will also serve as an opportunity to learn about Spiritual Life at Loras College.

10:00 AM — Admission Office Reception, Keane Hall
The Loras College Student Ambassadors and their families are invited to come and see the new Keane Hall Admission Visitor Reception space and mingle with the admission staff. In addition, any and all students with younger siblings can begin to learn more about the college process and help understand what’s next.  

10:30 AM — Family Weekend Football Tailgate, Smyth Hall Turnaround
Enjoy light snacks and drinks and learn more about some Loras College Student Organizations.

11:00 AM — Admission Presentation, Keane Hall 333
There will be a formal admission presentation for prospective students. Any and all students interested in pursuing Loras College for their future home away from home, are invited to learn more specifics!

11:30 AM — Loras College Campus Tour, Keane Hall
The Loras College Student Ambassadors will give a formal tour of campus for prospective students and their families.

1:00 PM — Loras vs. Coe Football Game, Rockbowl Stadium
Support your Duhawk football team as they take on Coe College!
Cost: $6.00 per adult; $5.00 age 55 and over; $3.00 for students (kindergarten through high school); age five and under is free; Loras faculty, staff and students free with Loras ID.

3:30 PM — Campus Life Office Open House, Alumni Campus Center
Stop by the Campus Life Office to meet the Student Life, Residence Life staffs as well as the Dean of Students.

3:30 PM — Center for Inclusion and Advocacy Open House, Alumni Campus Center
Stop by the Center for Inclusion and Advocacy Office to meet the staff and learn about the diversity programs available to Loras students.

4:00 PM — First Generation Reception, Alumni Campus Center
We welcome parents and supporters of students who are the first in their family to go to college during this reception in the Center for Inclusion and Advocacy. This will be an informal community event focused on connecting families and supporters to staff dedicated to support first generation college students towards college completion.

5:00 PM — Chill & Grill, Smyth Hall Turnaround
Enjoy food, music, bags, face painting and more. We encourage you to join us at the Smyth Hall turnaround, even if you are not going to the game. Dewey will stop by.  Cost:  $10 per adult, $6 kids 12 and under.

5:00 PM — Women’s Soccer Game v. Wheaton, Rockbowl Stadium
Support the Loras women’s soccer team as they take on Wheaton!
Cost: $6.00 per adult; $5.00 age 55 and over; $3.00 for students (Kindergarten through high school); age five and under is free; Loras faculty, staff and students free with Loras ID.

10:00 AM — Family Weekend Eucharist, Christ the King Chapel
Come celebrate with your family and the Loras family. All faith traditions are welcome. Family Weekend brunch follows. Included will be a special blessing for families. Join us to see why worship at Loras is so important!

11:00 AMMen’s Golf:  Loras College Fall Invite, Thunder Hills Country Club

11:15 AM — Family Weekend Pancake Breakfast, Marie Graber Ballrooms  Reservations Required
Bring the entire family and help us celebrate the conclusion to Family Weekend.  Enjoy a performance by Duhawkapella and a pancake breakfast. We will honor the Parent/Guardian of the Year as well as present the Father Naumann Award. Reservations are required for this event. Loras students may use a meal swipe for the Pancake Breakfast.

    ($12 for Adults and $8 for kids 10 and under)
  • Once your ticket is purchased online, you will receive an email receipt/confirmation to the email address you provided at check out. Please bring this email confirmation (printed or digitally) with you and check-in.
  • Please note:  Seating is on a first come, first served basis. There will be no assigned seating. If you have a large reservation, it is suggested you arrive early to find an available table that will accommodate your party.
