The Loras College Student Referral Campaign is looking to improve upon the success it saw during the 2018-2019 school year. Entering its second year, the program hopes to increase the number of referrals to prospective future Duhawks.
Last year, 235 student referrals were submitted by a total of 110 Loras Alumni. The efforts seen by the alumni was incredible, as there was a 60-year span of graduates that supported the campaign, ranging from 1958 to 2018.
Since May, the Loras Admission team has been expanding the scope of the referral program. Not only are they reaching out to alumni, but they addressed first-year students as well. After orientation, an email blast went out to the newest Duhawks on campus asking them to share the names of younger siblings and friends from their high school. Then last week, a different email push went out to about 1100 alumni who are teachers, coaches, principals, and counselors in high schools across the country.
For Joan (Havel) Schaefer (’89), the referral program liaison for the Admission Office, there is reason to believe that this kind of initiative will aid in recruiting more students to Loras.
“I believe that future Duhawks are everywhere, they just don’t know it yet and that’s where alumni and friends of Loras College come in,” she explained.
The new campaign kicks off on September 20-22 during Family Weekend. During the campaign, students are encouraged to wear Loras College gear wherever they go, as well as share any Loras news and or updates on their social media outlets. Not only this, but for every referral made, students will be given a 10% coupon off at the Loras Bookstore – don’t miss out on participating in this incredible initiative.
