The Loras College Admission Team welcomed nearly forty students to campus on Tuesday, March 13th to participate in an overnight visit and to help the Loras community celebrate Duhawk Day.
The first annual Accepted Student Visit Day was spearheaded by Senior Admission Representative, Kelsey Callahan (’16) (Chicago). “With all of the energy and excitement that surrounds Duhawk Day, we thought it would be a great opportunity to show future students this great community” said Callahan.
While on campus, future Duhawks participated in an event sponsored by the College Activity Board, spent the night in a Residence Hall, experienced a college class, enjoyed the Campus Life sponsored “Yell Like L” event, and ate lunch in the Café.
“Our goal was for high school students to experience a day in the life of a Duhawk and with the help of many departments on campus and several of our current students, they did” added Callahan.
A few of these prospective students had already committed Loras College prior to this event, but following their time on campus, several others committed to Loras as well.
Kyle Klapatauskas (’04), The Admission Director of Recruitment and Retention, noted the significance of the event. “Students are waiting longer than in past years to commit to a college, so adding an engaging visit experience at this time of year is critical for us, and to have it coincide with the energy and excitement of Duhawk Day was a great idea by Kelsey.”
The Admission Office will continue to welcome prospective students and their families to visit campus on an individual basis, with most seniors committing to their college of choice by the end of May.
