Fall 2018 Athletics Preview

The Fall Athletics programs kick into high gear at the end of the month when both the Women’s and Men’s Soccer teams take the pitch on August 31. As Loras student-athletes prepare for their upcoming seasons, here is a quick look at each team’s 2018 season.

Women’s Soccer

The Women’s Soccer team will be the first to compete on the new Rock Bowl turf as they play host to Washington-St. Louis on August 31. It is the first of five straight home games to kickoff the season for the Duhawks, with contests against UW-Eau Claire (9/1), St. Thomas (9/4), Saint Mary’s (9/8), and Millikin (9/9).

The Duhawks are looking to follow up on last season’s success that ended with an appearance in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The road to the postseason begins with the first round of the Iowa Conference Tournament on October 27.

Men’s Soccer

The 11-time IIAC Champion Men’s Soccer team also gets the action going on August 31 with a match at Elmhurst. They then return for their home opener on September 8 to play host to St. Olaf. The first conference contest will take place at Dubuque on September 22.

Other notable home games slated for 2018 are September 29 vs Nebraska Wesleyan, October 6 vs. Luther, and October 17 vs. Wartburg. The Iowa Conference tournament kicks off on October 27.

Cross Country

The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams take off when the gun sounds at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite on September 8, as the Men’s team looks to follow-up on their most successful season in program history. The 2017 team claimed the IIAC championship, a NCAA Regional Championship and 9th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

Both teams will run at the National Catholic Championships at Notre Dame on September 14, the Beloit Olde English Invitational on September 22, and at Wartburg on September 29 before hosting the Loras Invitational on October 5.

The Duhawks kickoff the 2018 season on the new Rock Bowl field on September 1 when UW-Eau Claire pays a visit to campus. They quickly move into conference play in week three at Luther on September 22, then play host to rival Dubuque on September 29.

Homecoming will see Nebraska Wesleyan take on the Duhawks at Loras on October 13. Wartburg (10/27) and Central (11/10) will make the trip to play at the Rock Bowl this season.

Women’s Golf

The Duhawks will take the links for four invitational events to sharpen their skills leading up to the Iowa Conference Championships on September 29 in Cedar Falls.

The Women’s Golf team will start their season in Decorah, IA for the Luther Sail classic on September 1. They then head to Monmouth (9/8), Clarke (9/15), and back to Decorah for the Luther Fall Invite (9/22).

Women’s Tennis

Action on the hardcourt begins on September 1 with a meet at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. The Duhawks play two more road contests before their first home match against conference foe St. Ambrose on September 6. They stay home for two more match-ups against Coe (9/8) and Luther (9/11).

Loras will host two other meets on the season. Wartburg will pay a visit on September 25, while Dubuque will step on the purple courts at Loras on October 3.
