Black Student Union Revival Sparks Campus Activities

.
“It’s long overdue.”

That statement, made by Loras College’s Intercultural Program Director Sergio Perez (’13), is 100 percent right.

The Black Student Union at Loras College has been inactive for quite some time. However, we are back and better than ever! A new eBoard has been put into place and with everyone’s hard work and effort, Black Student Union is bringing back the name and face that was dearly missed. Since February is Black History Month, we decided to reintroduce the Black Student Union.

On Feb 13, we joined our Loras Men’s and Women’s Basketball team in celebration of Black Excellence here at Loras College. The event took place during  both teams’ home victories against Luther College.

In addition to this big event, we have other numerous events lined up for the rest of this month on campus. Some events we’ve had are kickbacks, paint night, bringing in poets and more!

Our Black Student Union is entering a year full of amazing events and working with people throughout the Dubuque community as well. Whether it’s developing new relationships, coming up with new events, or even just making connections, we want our presence to be known in the community.

If you were part of Black Student Union or would like to get involved, feel free to reach out and email us at bsu@loras.edu.
