The NCAA has selected Loras College as the host for the 2020 NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship. On April 26-28, 2020, the last four teams remaining in the 2020 NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship will converge upon Dubuque and the Athletic & Wellness Center (AWC) to compete for a national title. This announcement marks the third national championship that Loras has hosted in school history, having previously hosted the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in 2004 and 2007.
“We are ecstatic to have been selected as a host for the men’s volleyball championship,” Director of Athletics Denise Udelhofen said. “This will provide us the opportunity to showcase our beautiful campus along with the great city of Dubuque and all that it has to offer. I have full confidence in our staff and campus community that we will provide an exceptional experience on behalf of the NCAA.”
Under the direction of head coach Jeremy Thornburg, Loras men’s volleyball has shown tremendous growth over the initial three years of the program. As an advocate of the sport, Thornburg was recognized in November as the Iowa Region Meritorious Service Award recipient.
“I am extremely excited and proud to host the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship in 2020 at Loras College,” Thornburg said. “The opportunity to host this championship will serve as a unique opportunity to showcase our campus, the city of Dubuque and the sport of men’s volleyball to not only the Midwest but also the entire country. I am thankful to our Director of Athletics Denise Udelhofen and Vice President of Student Development and Dean of Students Dr. Art Sunleaf for their work and vision to bring such an event to our campus.”
