Duhawks shatter dance marathon fundraising record

To celebrate Duhawk Dance Marathon’s tenth anniversary, more than 300 Loras College students gathered on Saturday, April 25, 2015, and shattered the group’s fundraising record, raising $229,129.01 for the Children’s Miracle Network and the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.  Last year, Duhawk Dance Marathon raised just over $191,000.
Each hour of the 12-hour marathon was kicked off by a “miracle family,” of a child regularly receiving care at the Children’s Hospital, sharing their experiences.  In observance of the 10-year anniversary, one hour was also dedicated to the 35 Dance Marathon alumni that attended the event, and one hour to the miracle kids themselves, when their favorite songs were played.
Funds were raised throughout the year by individual participants, through mini-marathons held at area schools, corporate donations and several student-organized events.
“I feel so fortunate that I get to work with this group of students each year.  I am continuously impressed with their dedication and commitment to this cause.  They exemplify their motto – FTK (For the Kids) each and every day,” said Kim Walsh, associate dean of students and Duhawk Dance Marathon advisor.
