Loras College to host Duhawk Day March 14

Local businesses play vital role in five years of success

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College, a four-year Catholic liberal arts college in Dubuque, will host its sixth annual Duhawk Day on Wednesday, March 14. The 24-hour event is centered around the College’s address, 1450 Alta Vista St. Appropriately, the goal is 1,450 donors.

Duhawk Day unites Duhawks around the world and spreads spirit, pride and support for Loras, the first college in Iowa. Last year, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the College set a new record with 1,614 donors, including 360 students. Thousands of individuals united at 17 events and gatherings across the country.

“Last year the response was record breaking and I’m confident that we will achieve 1,450 donors this year, if not top last year’s record,” said Mike Doyle, a 1991 graduate of Loras and vice president for advancement & treasurer. “And as always, the business community continues to be essential to the success of Duhawk Day.”

Several businesses in the Dubuque area designate a representative each year to rally around Duhawk Day, gather all Duhawks for photos and encourage colleagues to become part of the 1,450 donors challenge. Updates will appear throughout the day on the Loras College Alumni Facebook Page.

This year, 7 Hills Brewery, 1085 Washington St., Dubuque, will brew a Duhawk Day beverage and hold a competition to create a logo for the special concoction. 7 Hills will also host Duhawks at 8 p.m. on Duhawk Day following the annual Duhawk Day social in the Loras College PUB from 5 pm – 7 pm.

Also, Jumble Coffee Company, 4945 Asbury Rd., Asbury, will serve a special Duhawk Day java during the day.
