DUBUQUE, Iowa – His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan will preside at a liturgy at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 at Christ the King Chapel on the Loras College Campus, 1450 Alta Vista St., Dubuque. The entire Dubuque community is welcome to attend.
“It is definitely an honor and privilege to have Cardinal Dolan on campus,” Jim Collins, president of Loras, said. “With frequent contact with the Vatican, the Cardinal has a world view of Catholicism and the role Loras College plays in the global Catholic Church.”
While on campus, Dolan will visit with students, faculty and alumni. He will also meet with Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) missionaries, student leaders of Loras Campus Ministries and recipients of the St. John Paul II Scholarship. FOCUS is a Catholic collegiate outreach whose mission is to share the hope and joy of the gospel to college and university students.
Appointed by Pope Benedict XVI, Dolan serves as the 10th and current Archbishop of New York. He previously served as Archbishop of Milwaukee from 2002 to 2009, preceded by service as an Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis from 2001 to 2002. Time Magazine named Dolan one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” for 2012.
As part of the visit, doors open at 6:15 p.m. for a 7 p.m. dinner in the Marie Graber Ballroom inside the Loras Alumni Campus Center. Dolan will provide the keynote address highlighting Bishop Mathias Loras’ influence on the community, the early history of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, and the corresponding connections with the nation’s Catholic Church.
