Loras College surpasses Duhawk Day Challenge with 1,465 donors in just 24 hours

DUBUQUE, Iowa –Loras College’s fourth annual Duhawk Day, held May 19, tallied 1,465 donors, once again exceeding its goal of 1,450 donors, including 265 students and gifts from 41 states. Thousands of individuals participated through 18 events and informal gatherings throughout the 24-hour campaign.

“Once again, Duhawks, friends and family of the College have proven that Duhawk Day is the best of the best with an overwhelming response,” said Mike Doyle (’91), vice president for institutional advancement.

The celebration welcomes the newest group of alumni and unites Duhawks around the world to share spirit, pride and support for Loras College. Last year, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of Loras College also surpassed the goal of 1,450 donors.

“When we set our goal to 1,450 donors again this year, I knew that this was going to be a challenge,” Doyle said. “But our Loras alums, students and friends were up to the challenge again. I said it last year and I will say it again this year, reaching 1,465 donors in 24-hours is amazing. Many colleges our size do not attract that many donors on an annual basis—let alone in one day. The entire campus community is grateful and thankful for the extraordinary passion and support of our alumni, parents and friends.”

During the 24 hours, friends of the College are encouraged to get together, wear purple and gold and share photos and video from their celebrations using #DuhawkDay on social media or emailing alumni@loras.edu. Updates were posted throughout the day on the Loras College Alumni Facebook Page.

Donations received through Duhawk Day will benefit Loras College’s $100 million Inspiring Lives & Leadership campaign—the largest fundraising campaign in the 177-year history of the college. In addition to raising funds to support student aid and faculty/staff professional development, the campaign seeks funds to build upon the launch of its MBA program, business analytics initiative and other academic programs. As of April 30, the campaign has raised $84.5 million through more than 20,000 donors.
