DUBUQUE, Iowa – Since 2005, Mysteries of Christmas has become a traditional part of the Advent season for many in the Loras and Dubuque communities.
This year’s performance, For Unto Us a Son is Given, will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, December 6 at Dubuque’s Steeple Square in Dubuque. The joyous 90-minute performance will feature vocal and instrumental pieces integrated with prayers and spiritual messages to enter more deeply into the Advent season.
From its inception 14 years ago, Mysteries of Christmas has sought to provide the community with a seasonal experience which presents the highest quality of music and literature in a concert format imbued with our Catholic culture.
In keeping with our College’s mission statement, Mysteries of Christmas provides all a joyous occasion to welcome in the Season of Advent as we wait with expectation for the coming of Christ. Music and readings give the audience, musicians and lectors material to ponder the wonder and awe of God’s gift of salvation to us, through his Son Jesus.
Each anthem, motet, instrumental movement and reading invites us to revel in the anticipation of two manners of Christ’s coming: His past incarnation at Christmas, and His future return at the end of time.
The admission offering is $10 per person or $30 for a family four-pack.
Steeple Square is located at 101 E 15th St. in Dubuque.
