Iowa baseball historian, John Liepa, will highlight the event
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College, a Catholic liberal arts college, will hosts its third annual Sports Card Show for kids from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 featuring Iowa baseball historian, John Liepa.
Liepa, a life-long baseball card collector, serves as a charter member of Iowa’s “Field of Dreams” chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). The Des Moines native has done over 110 presentations about baseball history throughout the Midwest. Liepa owns 221 cards and memorabilia representing strictly Iowa’s Major Leaguers. His presentation will begin at 12 p.m.
The event, hosted by the Loras Sport Business Club, is free for all attendees in the Marie Graber Ballrooms A and B. Exhibitors are open to ages of 5-18 and are $20 for a table. The student-run event is headed by Cole Hansen (‘19), Sawyer Marquardt (‘21) and Mike Prang (’20).
“I participate in planning the Cards for Kids show because even to this day I collect baseball cards and these kids have a similar hobby of mine,” Prang said. “The card show gives kids the opportunity to not only make money by selling their cards, but to also enjoy the opportunity to mingle and meet kids with a similar interest to them.”
