Earns ninth place in ‘Best Regional College’ list
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College, Iowa’s first college, is the highest ranked Catholic college or university in Iowa, according to the 2018 College Consensus Best Catholic Colleges rankings. Overall, Loras ranks 26 among the 127 that made the list.
“Loras’ inclusion on the list shows that we are making an impact on students that will have a transformative effect on their lives and those of others,” Jim Collins, president of Loras, said. “Catholic colleges and universities like Loras continue to evolve while strongly advancing the traditions of faith, community, and servant leadership that define a Catholic education.”
In making the ranking, Loras topped other Catholic institutions such as Marquette University, 53; St. Thomas University, 111; Saint Louis University, 63; DePaul University, 84; Seton Hall University. 94; and Viterbo University, 81.
College Consensus results are determined through reputable college ranking systems and thousands of student reviews.
With a 12-to-1 student/faculty ratio, Loras meets one of the crucial requirements of the small liberal arts college – excellent student support and direct, one-on-one mentorship opportunities for students. Loras offers students nearly 50 majors and a dozen minors, as well as pre-professional programs in some of the areas most crucial to for a regional college, such as pre-law and pre-med programs. The College also offers numerous study abroad, service learning, and internship opportunities to increase students’ experiential learning to develop connections for employment after graduation.
