The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), in coordination with Elite Level Sports Marketing (ELSM), has named 12 college programs as finalists for the 2015–16 Best of Brand Top Newcomer Award. Loras has been selected as a finalist in a field that features eight Division I programs, two Division II programs and two Division III programs.
“The 12 programs in this category did an outstanding job establishing their brand this year,” ELSM CEO Coyte Cooper said. “They put a lot of effort into creative marketing efforts and it showed in the product they turned out throughout the year.”
In the second year under the direction of Jim Naprstek as director of athletic communications, Loras Wrestling has seen a significant overhaul in its presence on social media. A full social media plan has been implemented which features pre-dual, bout updates and post-dual graphics, as well as video highlights from select matches. Loras has also implemented the use of Snapchat to give fans a more personal look at the program during duals and tournaments.
Each year, the Breakout Performer Award is given to the program that best uses social media to market their program in their first year in the Best of Brand field.
“The Breakout Performer Award is important because it represents growth in our sport, “NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer said. “The more programs that are involved, the better off wrestling is at all levels.
