Latest Ordained Priests in Archdiocese of Dubuque Share Loras Ties

The Archdiocese of Dubuque ordained five new priests, all of whom have connections to Loras College. Father Thomas Heathershaw (’15), Father Joshua Link (’15), Father Michael McAndrew (’15), Father Tyler Raymond (’15) and Father James Goerend (’91) all enrolled in the St. Pius X Seminary program at Loras and are all recent graduates from The University of St Mary of the Lake (USML) in Mundelein, Ill.

Fr. Heathershaw grew up in Waterloo, Iowa and studied at the University of Iowa before graduating from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in 2013. He then started in the St. Pius X Seminary program at Loras and graduated in 2015. He has been assigned as associate pastor of Church of the Resurrection in Dubuque.

Fr. Link is a Dubuque native who attended Loras out of high school. His first assignment will be as associate pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Manly and Epiphany Parish in Mason City.

Fr. McAndrew received his call to the priesthood during his final semester at the University of Northern Iowa. After graduating from UNI, he enrolled at Loras in 2013. Fr. McAndrew will begin his ministry as associate pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Marshalltown.

A Cedar Rapids native, Fr. Raymond transferred to Loras from the University of Iowa. He is the new associate pastor of the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, St. Joseph Parish in Earlville, St. Boniface Parish in New Vienna, Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Petersburg and St. Paul Parish in Worthington.

Fr. Goerend received the call to the priesthood later than the other four. He enrolled in Loras out of high school and left to travel the country. He earned his bachelor’s degree from UNI in 1995 and taught high school social studies for 18 years before returning to seminary study in 2013. He is joining Fr. Raymond as associate pastor of the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, St. Joseph Parish in Earlville, St. Boniface Parish in New Vienna, Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Petersburg and St. Paul Parish in Worthington.
