Improvements to the Rock Bowl and Keane Hall are in full swing and progressing toward completion later this year.
The new Rock Bowl turf installation was completed in June and is receiving its first test as the Loras College All-Sports Camp, and its 2,600+ kids on campus, runs through July 20. The field installation is part of Phase One, which also includes a new track surface that will be applied starting July 23 and completed before students return to campus in the fall. Phase Two will be completed over the course of the next year with improvements to landscaping in and around the Rock Bowl, along with the installation of a new scoreboard.
“The turf replacement in the Rock Bowl is spectacular,” said Director of Athletics Denise Udelhofen (‘90). “I am excited for our student athletes to see it as they return to campus this fall. We added a purple sideline to emphasize set up for soccer and lacrosse which turned out amazing. We have a turf field that all Duhawks can be proud of from students, to faculty and staff, to our alums who return to campus to watch our athletic teams compete.”
The main entrance to Keane Hall is undergoing a facelift to remove the external stairs in favor of a ground-level entryway to make the building accessible to all as a new elevator will be installed as you enter. In addition, first and second floors will be undergoing an overhaul to open up the entryway and allow more natural lighting, to take greater advantage of the views provided from Keane Hall. Renovations are slated to be substantially completed by Homecoming Weekend which starts on Friday, October 12.
